Can anyone identify this beautiful bike for me?

OK, this will be a weird post because i have no idea what i'm blogging about - basically when me and a friend went out for breakfast yesterday morning at a cafe next to our apartment, we saw this BIG bike, which is more long than big, one cant really make out the size form this picture but if you try, do you realise the back wheel, which is smaller than the front one, is the same size as the door, side ways, so imagine how big this bike was, i have no clue what its called or what type of bike it is - so just letting you know i spotted things and thought it was quite a beauty and wothy of a blog post, non?
Pic by me, Sunday morning, 29th March, around 11am next to Giovanni's, Green Point, Cape Town!
Anyone who can help me identify the name of this bike, please do...

Picture Of The Day: V&A Waterfront (taken from)

The Victoria & Alfred Waterfront in the historic heart of Cape Town's working harbour is South Africa's most-visited destination, having the highest rate of foreign tourists of any attraction in the country. Situated between Robben Island and Table Mountain and set against a backdrop of sea and mountain views, it offers a variety of shopping and entertainment options to visitors, intermingled with office locations, hotels such as the historical Breakwater Lodge once a 19th century prison and luxury apartments in the residential marina. It houses the Nelson Mandela Gateway which offers boat trips to Robben Island, as well as the Two Oceans Aquarium. Isn't that something, ok well I often go for less touristy reasons, like shopping, movies and perhaps a light lunch or two - Yesterday me and a friend, after shopping and watching a movie, i watched Confessions Of A Shopaholic, more on that later - we went to have a drink at one of the new restaurants, Melancino, and sitting there on the comfy white couches, accessoried with a sorta Verve Clicquot orange throws, we both took note of how blessed we were to have such a magnificent view and this is where we live, this is not our holiday destination, we live here - we then engaged in a slightly indepth discussion about life and all the fuzzy stuff - but i felt i had to share this pic, excuse the poor quality it was taken with my phone!

Cheese Of The Day...from George Carlin

Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting '...holy sh*t ...what a ride!' (George Carlin on ageing)

George Denis Patrick Carlin (May 12, 1937 – June 22, 2008) was an American stand-up comedian. He was also an actor and author, and he won five Grammy Awards for his comedy albums. Carlin was placed second on the Comedy Central cable television network list of the 100 greatest stand-up comedians, ahead of Lenny Bruce and behind Richard Pryor. He was a frequent performer and guest host on The Tonight Show during the three-decade Johnny Carson era, and was also the first person to host Saturday Night Live.

On This Day: 1998, US President Bill Clinton visited South Africa

On this day in 1998, then US President Bill Clinton became the first American head of state to visit South Africa. Just a random fact for the day :-)
William Jefferson "Bill" Clinton was the forty-second President of the United States, serving from 1993 to 2001. Before his presidency, Clinton served nearly twelve years as the 50th and 52nd Governor of Arkansas. He was the third-youngest person to serve as president, behind Theodore Roosevelt and John F. Kennedy, and is known as the first baby boomer president.

Song Of The Day: Sonic Youth - Superstar

Today's song is not actually a new song, rather old actually. When Richard Carpenter, of the brother and sister group the Carpenters, heard the song, he says that he instantly thought it could be a hit and would be perfect for the Carpenters.
The subject matter of "Superstar" may have seemed somewhat unusual for a mainstream act like the Carpenters at the time. However, with Karen Carpenter's voice, the tone of melancholy in the song was emphasized in gripping fashion. It was not their biggest hit, but it reached #2 on the pop singles chart and has been strongly tied to the duo ever since. In 1994, a tribute album to the Carpenters titled If I Were a Carpenter featured a version of "Superstar" by the band Sonic Youth (pictured). This recording has been both treasured and reviled by fans of the band. After 14 years, the film Juno pulled the 2nd generation classic recording out of obscurity and made it the subject of discussion for another generation of music fans – I personally dig the song – I love haunting music!

==lyrics==

Long ago, and oh so far away,
I fell in love with you - before the second show
Your guitar - it sounds so sweet and clear,
but you're not really there - it's just the radio

Don’t you remember you told me you love me baby?
You said you'd be coming back this way again baby,
Baby baby baby baby oh baby - I love you, I really do

Loneliness, is such a sad affair,
and I can hardly wait - to be with you again
what to say - to make you come again
come back to me again and play your sad guitar

Don’t you remember you told me you love me baby?
You said you'd be coming back this way again baby,
Baby baby baby baby oh baby - I love you, I really do!

I Had A Chimichanga and Now I'm Sh*tting!

Its quite simple really - i went to dinner last night with a friend, after our French lesson we decided, ag, why drive all the way home when we could take a stroll up Long Street and find a neighbourhood place to eat - well we did just off long - a Mexican restaurant called Mexican Kitchen called our names, we sat outside, made corny, if not slightly inappropriate Mexican jokes and had a wonderful meal that arrived at a staggering 3.5 mins (no kidding) after we ordered - i worried - i'm used to places i have to wait a good 10 mins, minimum, for my meal, especially when it involved this much beef - anyway i had a Chimichang, purely for amusement sake - a chimichanga is a popular Mexican dish which is basically a deep friend burrito - wasn't as tasty as anticipated but still enjoyable - except today i'm paying the usual Mexican price. Ask anyone who's ever been out for Mexican food - they'll tell you they had a runny tummy the next day - I'm no exception, have had a serious case of the sh*ts since i got to work, its exhausting! So next time i'll be sure to stay clear of the anything with an amusing name! The restaurant as a whole was charming with very authentic slash kitch-y decor. I'm definitely gonna go back there for some Margaritas & Sombreros.
UPDATE: Okay this minor situation I seem to have on my hands seems to be getting worse, just now i was in a meeting with the Director and i could feel the surge, anticipating a charge, I had to stand up and say: ''Tim, I'm sorry but if i dont leave now something rather unseemly might take place'', he looked puzzled, I had little time to explain, I bee-lined for the loo! To think that i ordered this purely for a laugh, who's laughing now.

BREAKING NEWS: Johannesburg Police open fire on Taxi Drivers!

This just in, you heard it here first, no other news site is reporting on this as yet!

In Johannesburg news people are advised not to take Greyston Drive in Sandton. The Grayston, Corlett and Marlboro off and on ramps on the M1 all have been closed, this is after the police allegedly opened fire on the Taxi Drivers.

Shoe Dilemma: Black or White All Star Chuck Taylors?

UPDATE: I bought white ones - it was a hard decision, but i'm very happy with the choice i made, i felt like i couldnt win either way - hopefully soon i can get black ones as well.

At The Movies: Marley & Me

Adapted from John Grogan's debut bestselling book, Marley & Me is a painfully realistic portrayal of life and death as seen through the relationship of a young writer "John Grogan" (Owen Wilson) and his loyal Labrador retriever companion Marley. Firstly i'd like to acknowldge that i wasn't expecting much from this movie which turned out to be a very heart-warming saga of the most incorrigible dog ever captured on film is excellent entertainment, although parents should keep in mind very young children may be disturbed by the heartbreaking ending, which had grown men - myself included - almost in tears (i never tear in movies) after laughing hysterically for 90 minutes. Jennifer Aniston is as charming as ever, outstanding subtle performance, almost like she threw down the script and assumed the character of Jennifer Grogan, and Owen Wilson manages to subdue his frequently snide and wise-alecky persona long enough to offer an great performance. This isn't just the story of a dog with behaviour problems; it's a charming portrait of a marriage as the couple navigates their way through life while dealing with tragedy, financial difficulties, and the joys and frustrations of parenthood, in addition to that very energetic, chaotic but lovable yellow Lab.I can't find words to make it not sound like another dog movie, so just trust me and go see it - its great!
Random fact: The movie is by the creators of The Devil Wears Prada

Shoe Dilemma: Black or White All Star Chuck Taylors?

I've been wanting to get myself a pair these classic sneakers, Converse's All Star Chuck Taylors, now i'm very close to making the decision, and I'm faced with a creative decision, its one of the most critical decisions when you're doing anything but curing cancer, the COLOUR. What colour must i get? I'm not adventurous, not keen on anything flamboyant and kitsch, i'm a man of basics, black or white - being South African this is always a slightly loaded decision, thankfully this is not half as sensitive - I just need help figuring out what colour boot-ed All Star sneakers to buy.

Chuck Taylor All-Stars are canvas and rubber shoes produced by Converse. They were first produced in 1908 as the "All-Star", Converse's attempt to capture the basketball shoe market. They were not particularly popular until basketball player Chuck Taylor adopted them as his preferred shoe. He was so impressed with the design that he became the shoe's leading salesman. After proposing a few changes to the shoe, the shoe got its current name and Chuck Taylor's signature on its ankle patch.

Fabulosity: All In A Capetonian's Night Out

What’s a typical Capetonians evening? Does he leave work close to 19h00, rush home, shower and get dolled up and head to the theatre with a lady friend to spend an unforgettable evening with housewife, superstar and international style icon Dame Edna Everidge - as portrayed by Mr Ceri Dupree - a gas of a show, most hilarious show of its kind! With Dame Edna at certain parts of the show use the audience as inspiration for his repertoire, at some point my friend was called on stage to portray a nun, I died, for her – but she survived, she was such a great sport, and took to the nun role as a duck to water, which couldn’t have been difficult, what with being a good Catholic girl and all ;) Once wet with laughter, does the Capetonian head to Fork for dinner, make them open even when they were getting ready to close, at 23h30, then after that does he head to K.I.N.K Bar Boutique, owned by a friend he once lived with. KINK Bar is a sensual and du jour concept tucked away secretly in a beautiful vintage building at 3 Park Road offering clients evenings of boutique burlesque shows. The newly refurbished boutique boudoirs upstairs section offers the adult market some sex-enablers (all very tastefully & exorbitant;), while leading the tableaux vivant entertainment in the exquisitely designed downstairs. Evening shows focus on the ancient art of theatrical tease-cabaret nights. Is this an idea of a typical Cape Town evening? Perhaps not, but this was my evening of fabulosity last night!

Fabulosity Tip: Guys looking to impress their girlfriends need to visit K.I.N.K Bar Boutique and get your missus a pair of sexy lingerie.

Scent of The Moment: Prada Amber pour Homme

I love fragrances - i adore smell in general and most people around me know that i often have half a dozen fragrances at all times so i can treat my olfactory cells to contrasting scent-sational thrills every now and then. So now my latest addition is the amazing Prada Amber pour Homme. I first purchase this fragrance back in 2007, on my first trip to Paris with a close friend, we both fell in love with the fragrance we ended up both buying the same fragrance - which i had never done before. Now i have a new bottle ah joie...Prada Amber Pour Homme released in 2006 was the first men fragrance from the house of Prada. It was developed by perfumer Daniela Andrier. The notes include bergamot, mandarin, neroli, cardamom, geranium, vetiver, orange blossom, myrrh, nirvanolide musk, labdanum, sandalwood, tonka bean, vanilla, saffron, patchouli and leather. This scent is most certainly not as amber-y as the name would have you believe, if at all, but it is a very well-blended and mixed - does not transform all that much, smells expensive and unique. It's very hard to identify the individual notes in this fragrance, and yes it does have a synthetic feel if overapplied, and yes it definately smells like soap, but the kind of soap an average person (e.g. me) wouldnt be able to afford or even know where to buy it. Another big plus with Amber is that it will not change with your skin chemistry. It is soapy, and very thick, like a blanket of some sort with great longevity, but you are not going to get the 'on my skin it smells like turpentine and lilies' type of thing. It is authentic yet a bit synthetic, chic yet a bit loud, rich yet a bit cloying, masculine yet a bit unusual. It is minimalist, on point and direct - will most likely not be a crowd-pleaser, but this is just like Prada's male clothing, or their whole masculine philosophy: Exclusive and slightly elusive with their image as what a Prada man should be. And this scent captures that. Also makes for an excellent scent for the workplace. It stays close to the skin and is warm, and "clean". It is unique and classy with an amazing sillage without being too loud, the opening to drydown is tightly knit, and you never get the feeling that you smell like the other three guys in the elevator...

Disaster Strikes Cape Town: Table Mountain & Devil's Peak on Fire

Last night i had dinner at the lovely Societi Bistro with 5 friends, was delightful, just after being served complementary desserts (an assortment of all the desserts they have on the menu) as a thank you for the review i wrote about them on the eatout.co.za website (Didn't even know they read that stuff), we were told there was a huge fire on Devil's Peak and traffic was being re-directed, four our of five at dinner weren't really that bothered mainly because we all live in town and wouldnt be driving that way, but the one friend who lives Southern Suburbs way, texted a mere 10 mins later to say, the mountain was ablaze, the re-direction was not an overbearing move on the Cape Town council/authorities (excuse my ignorance as to who's responsible for this) but a necessity.
Just a month ago i wrote a heated letter to the mayor of Cape Town about these fires and all they said was, they were working on it, but never went into details about what was actually being done - i left it at that - but i love Cape Town and it affects me a lil' everytime i hear of a fire and it makes me feel like not enough is being done, not so much to prevent them, because you cant entirely prevent fires, but there aren't stringent enough strategies to conquere the fires once they break out, anyway i'm sure there's a lot i'm not aware of.

De Waal Drive was closed for traffic at 00:15.Loudhailers were used to order residents of High Cape to evacuate as flames licked at the buildings.Long queues of cars formed as residents tried to escape the inferno. Security guards were going door-to-door telling the residents to evacuate. Two people sustained third degree burns and five firefighters were injured in the blaze :-(

At The Movies: He's Just Not That Into You

So i went to see this movie, mainly for the cast, i didnt expect much from it and I'm glad i didn't - it was a simple, slightly hum drummy kinda movie, but guess what i actually enjoyed it - Based on the wildly popular bestseller from Sex and the City scribes Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo, I expected the movie to try and be a Sex and the City, glitz, glamour, sex etc, but He's Just Not That Into You tells the stories of a group of interconnected, Baltimore-based twenty- and thirtysomethings as they navigate their various relationships from the shallow end of the dating pool through the deep, murky waters of married life, trying to read the signs of the opposite sex... and hoping to be the exceptions to the "no-exceptions" rule. If you've ever sat by the phone wondering why he said he would call, but didn't, or if you can't figure out why she doesn't want to sleep with you anymore, or why your relationship just isn't going to the next level... he (or she) is just not that into you.

Cast:Jennifer Aniston, Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Connelly, Scarlett Johansson, Ben Affleck, Ginnifer Goodwin, Bradley Cooper, Kevin Connolly

My Evening: Going to Societi Bostro Again Tonight

I know i haven't posted in a bit of a while :-( sorry - but i went on a weekend away and didnt have much time to blog - now that i'm back, i have an obscene amount of work, so been too busy to post anything, but lets hope those days are gone.

Ok so tonight i'm going to Societi Bostro again for dinner with 5 friends - looking forward to an equally delightful dinner as last week's. Will keep you posted.

200 Visitors for Fabulosity - Cape Town

Hmm didnt expect this number to come up this high so soon - now i'm wondering if i should have a party to celebrate the 200 visitors or should i wait till i perhaps hit 500? if i ever do...having an unexpectedly awesome time in Tulbagh, very interesting things have happened and made me realise i actually like my colleagues :-) There's a new nice man, he's gonna be the team leader, very nice except has an Australian accent so you cant help but wanna mock him all the time.
Anyway have had a great 2 days here, even though i missed Cape Town so much, all the parties i had to miss especially tonight, i'm having a great time here and sort of makes it all worth it - the Team Building was actually very successful, well with winning me over for one - its a first for me to hold such positive views for these things...

Weekend Away: TULBAGH, Western Cape

Tulbagh is home to vineyards, towering mountains, countless national monuments and stunning scenery, and all only 120km North East of Cape Town - I'm going on a weekend away this weekend, to Tulbagh, this should be exciting, what would ordinarily be a delightful idea, leaves me uncertain, mainly due to the company. I'm going with my department from work, its a Team Building event....now you see where my reservations stem from? I've never been a fan of these things, but lets hope it'll be delightful.

Random Post: Ever wondered why Nissan.com is not Nissan Motor Company

I just came across this story - something i hadn't picked up before, mainly because i, ordinarily, wouldn't be interested in what cars Nissan was making, perioed, let alone going to their international site - but its true the url www.nissan.com is not owned by Nissan the Motor Company, its owned by Nissan, lol, a computer company and now Nissan Motor is suing Nissan Computer for Trademark Infringement, Trademark Dilution And Cyber-Squatting. The tragic car manufacturer is seeking 10 million dollas In Damages. This is after more than 20 years of Mr. Nissan's well-documented prior use
of his family name for business purposes in the United States which he commenced when the car manufacturer was still known as DATSUN. Is Nissan really seeking damages or finding a way out of the shitty economic climate hovering over all car manufacturers
(as well as everyone of course)?

South African Elections: Expats, are you registered to vote?

The Cape Town Constitutional Court ruled on Thursday that registered voters living overseas can vote for the National Assembly in the April 22 elections yay for them. They must notify the chief electoral officer of their intention to vote by March 27, the court ordered. Currently the IEC has not yet clarified whether South Africans living abroad will need to fill out the VEC10 form, which is the form those who applied for permission to cast a special vote submitted to the chief electoral officer and has also not updated the guidelines on their website to reflect the Constitutional Court ruling. Expats who have not yet registered will not be allowed to register ahead of the April 22 elections. Registration with the IEC closed on February 11. In terms of legislation, the window for new voters to register closes when the election date is proclaimed by the President in the government gazette. Pope admits to mistake in lifting the excommunication of a Holocaust-denying bishop

Pope Benedict XVI admits to mistake in lifting the excommunication of a Holocaust-denying bishop.A letter has been sent to all Roman Catholic bishops apparently saying that insufficient checks were made beforehand and lessons will be learned. The Pope's decision in January caused a rift in Catholic-Jewish relations. The Vatican has asked the bishop, Richard Williamson, to recant his views, but he has not done so. Bishop Williamson has denied the existence of gas chambers and said only 200,000 to 300,000 Jews were killed by the Nazis. Church leaders said the Pope had not been aware when he lifted the excommunication that the bishop had voiced such views to a Swedish TV programme recorded last November. British bron Bishop Williamson, was one of four hardline conservative bishops to have their excommunications lifted. The move was a bid by the Pope to end a schism that began in 1988, when the four were ordained without Vatican permission. But it was then revealed that Bishop Williamson had aired his denial that six million Jews had died in the Holocaust in an interview for a Swedish television programme last November. The case led to protests from Holocaust survivors, world Jewish leaders and Jewish groups, as well as German Chancellor Angela Merkel. The Pope's letter comes shortly after confirmation that he will visit Israel in May. Bishop Williamson returned to Britain last month after he was asked to leave Argentina, where he had been the head of a seminary.

Season Colours: Cobalt blue and camel

If you are the typa guy who cares which colours are in trend this fall (coming soon), apparently i have your answer. Cobalt blue and camel are this season's key colours and are totally wearable and go great together. I happen to own a cobalt blue shirt, so i guess i should start wearing it again :-)

Restaurant Of The Day: Societi Bistro

Last night i had the pleasure to dine with a friend at the new Societi Bistro in Gardens, Cape Town. The new location with views of Table Mountain is unbeatable, the inside has a rustic feel with naked brick walls, the outside section is what i fell in love with the most, it reminded me of the restaurant La Colombe d'Or aux portes de Saint Paul de Vance, situted in the Provence area of the South of France. Last night was a particularly magical night to be dining outside, it was warm, but not too warm and not windy at all. The food was sublime, I had their signature Fillet Steak Au Poivre with Madagascan green peppercorns, brandy, cream sauce, wilted spinach & frites, and it was one of the best steaks i've ever had, ever. For dessert we both wanted to try the Parisian Chocolate Truffle Cake purely just from our love of chocolate and all things Parisian, but we ended up getting the Baked Cheese Cake as well, and i'm not a big cheese cake fan, ordinarily, but just this once 'cheese' trumped 'chocolate' - we didnt even finish the chocolate truffle cake.
The service was attentive, familiar & professional. The whole evening was just delightful - I can't wait to go back there again.

Obama leads book prize shortlist

US president Barack Obama leads the nominations for this year's British Book Awards by making the shortlist for both author and biography of the year.

Obama's political tract, The Audacity of Hope, and his life story, Dreams from My Father, became UK bestsellers during his 2008 run for office. Kate Summerscale, who won last year's Samuel Johnson prize, is also nominated twice for The Suspicions of Mr Whicher. The winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on 3 April.

Strong competition

Dreams from My Father was written before Obama thought of entering politics and was originally published in 1995. It tells of his early life as a black boy growing up with his white grandparents and is frank about his drug use and flirtations with the Black Power movement. The book faces strong competition for biography of the year from bestselling memoirs by JG Ballard, Dawn French, Paul O'Grady, Julie Walters and Marcus Trescothick.

Obama's rivals for author of the year include American Stephanie Meyer. The four volumes of her teenage vampire saga, Twilight, are currently the four best selling children's books in the UK according to industry magazine The Bookseller.

Cape Town Attraction: Clifton 3rd Beach

I think we can all agree that Cape Town is one of THE most beautiful cities in the world - blessed with an imposing mountain, Table Mountain and a captivating coast, that it's sometimes hard to pick one's favourite parts. So i find it easier to pick different attractions e.g. the beach and picking a favourite one. My favourite beach has to be Clifton 3rd, and no this is not because of its liberal nature and mixes of people, shapes, sizes, gay, straight, races, nope, its purely just for its beauty, it's small, enclosed, just the right amount of boulders sprinkled around. I took this picture a few Sundays ago when me and a friend decided to waste our Sunday afternoon at Clifton 3rd .
Fabulosity Tip: Try go on a Sunday, its not as crowded as a Saturday, and bring the Sunday Times as well as an International Fashion issue, preferably in a foreign language, that you don't intend reading, like the Italian GQ for instance, or a French book to practise French if you're taking lessons like me.

Song Of The Day: Britney Spears - Unusual You

I know Britney doesn't, often produce music that people don't pass for superfluous pop fluff, until her previous album, Blackout which from start till end was a jam packed party record that, admittedly, kept me gyrating for days. Her latest effort, Curcus, tagged as the official 'come-back', though not as sleek or as addictive as its predecessor still has a few worthy tracks that will be emblazoned in your mind for days. Unusual You is a tune with a backing track that will leave you feeling like you just discovered a would-be late 90's hit, the song's smooth, subtle, yet effective. This is the one song that feels reminiscent of Blackout, it is one of perhaps 3 songs that are genuinely addictive on this album. Give it 3 listens, you'll be gone!

Scent Of The Moment: Power by Kenzo

Last night after dinner with a colleague of mine, I went to purchase a new fragrance, it’s never an easy decision, I almost bought two, I was so torn, but settled for Power by Kenzo! I’m wearing it today for the first time and reviewing!
With Power, Kenzo taps into the trend in male fragrances, which have a more evolved view of what mucho means, which believes that "charismatic" is not synonymous with "aggressive", and that understated power is as real and attractive as the more obvious kind. Fleur du Male, Fahrenheit 32, Gucci Pour Homme II, the trio of Dior colognes (which two of them make my top 10 list of all time favourites fragrances I’ve worn, Dior Homme & Dior Sport) and above all Dior Homme are the examples of such "understated masculinity". Like Dior Homme, Kenzo Power was created by Olivier Polge and is the only one of Polge’re recent offerings I haven’t worn, and like the former, it is "a flower for men". In Dior's case, the flower was iris; which I adore, if only that fragrance had better silage, that’d be me, eternally, well for Kenzo, Polge conjures up an imaginary blossom.
Kenzo Power begins with strong vanilla bergamot accented with light coriander and cardamom. After the citrus and spice opening, comes the “abstract floral” accord, which is the imaginary blossom - smells a little like green tea and a little like what my undeveloped olfactory cells can only described as a hygrophyte of some sort. Overall, Kenzo Power’s flower smells fresh-aquatic and artificial, as it should. On fabric, the bergamot opening (the best phase) lasts and lasts and when the flower accord kicks in, it takes up residence in the fabric for hours, remaining bright and blending seamlessly with the spices and wood notes that make it a masculine fragrance. On skin, Kenzo Power begins to disintegrate and fade within 40 minutes, but this could also be the mix with my lotion & shower gel that fragments the molecular composition.

Gutsy Move of the day: Rocking shorts to work!

Okay so yesterday was Cape Towns hottest day of the year so far - about 38 degrees, and man was it unpleasant to be at work on such a day, anyway to ensure this discomfort doesn't repeat itself i decided i'd wear shorts to work today - with a formal shirt, tucked in, the whole look is actually passing for decent work gear, except it might be too street, think Burberry or even Dolce & Gabbana just without the tie ;) And so far so good - am still awaiting to see how management will receive this gutsy move. Lets hope i'm still employed come Monday!

Song Of The Day: Daughtry - Feels Like The First Time

Today's song is not all that new, and i've always liked it but this past week, its been on my mind more than ever - and it make me get the Daughtry album, the song was recorded late last year when Chris Daughtry joined CNN’s League of First Time Voters by contributing a cover of the Foreigner’s classic, “Feels Like the First Time". The song was used as the soundtrack to special reports throughout CNN’s election coverage focusing on first time votes during the past US election (Barack Obama and John McCain). “Getting to rerecord a classic song like this was a real honour for us, and we hope it helps inspire people to vote" said Daughtry after their first performance of the song. Even Foreigner’s Mick Jones approved of the new version, saying “Daughtry’s version of the song is very cool and has more than captured the essence of the original.” The song has an election-themed video (youtube ;). The song is featured on the Daughtry Deluxe reissue already out now.

Favourite Restaurant: Fork

On Tuesday I went out for dinner with two lovely friends of mine, (THE most adorable married couple I’ve ever met, doesn’t hurt that they are very young as well) to one of my utmost favourite restaurants, Fork in Long Street. Skeptically, the general reaction is usually, ‘Really? In Long Street?’, well little do people know, this is a gem. The freshness of the ingredients and the intensity of the flavours is right on par with some of the best food I’ve been blessed to taste in places like Paris and the general Provence area of the South of France. The actual cuisine borrows its serving style from Spain, tapas comes from the word ‘tapa’ which means ‘to cover’. In the southern province of Andalusia, wine bars would use a saucer to cover the top of the wine to keep fruit flies away from the wine, and the saucer would carry some min bites of food to be enjoyed with the wine, soon this became a phenomenon and wine bars began to use these titbits of food to define themselves and people would come to the wine bar with the best tapas. At the Fork the focus is on contemporary Tapas, an evolution of the old and still existing Spanish ways, a spirit of sharing smaller plates of food, and a culinary sensation of experiencing different tastes all in the same meal. The concept promotes having fun, experimenting, sharing, eating and enjoying some good wine with friends, acquaintances and business colleagues without the formality of one large plate of food. Fork has adopted the Spanish idea, combined it with different South African ingredients and flavours, while employing the best of Europe’s food preparation techniques. The décor is very perfectly stripped down, a ‘rustic’ naked brick wall, dark woods and low lighting, sorta New York. Everyone’s I’ve taken here as been blown away, even the ones that were doubtful of the location.
